180

180 (number)

Le Cafe Miro 81 (turns into 180, when it breaks and kills Carter)
The number 180, also known as the 180 curse and the 180 cliché, is a recurring ominous and common number, usually it is a key element part in the Final Destination series. It is usually marking the coming death of a character. The number refers to the series' original name, Flight 180, which was decided by New Line a name too easily confusable with other movies such as Air Force One and Con Air. The number has appeared in every film of the series, always associated with the opening disaster (Flight 180, Mile 180, Train 081, Arena 180), and constantly seen throughout the films as a mirrored 081, license plate numbers, ticket numbers, etc.

Origin

The first sign of the number was in Final Destination. In it, a teenager named Alex Browning and his friends board Volée Airlines Flight 180, scheduled for Paris, France. However, things began to take an unlucky turn when the plane exploded. Ever since then, any signs of the number 180 do nothing but foreshadow misfortune and death.

Occurrences/signs of the number

Final Destination

Final Destination 2

  • "Next 180 feet" sign.
  • 180 Mile Marker.

Final Destination 3

  • Train 081
  • "Turn Around" (also called a 180).
  • Unit 081 key (in hardware store).

The Final Destination

  • Nick O'Bannon and his friends' seating order.
  • One of the security camera numbers shown when checking the security footage.
  • The bus's number at the end of the movie.
  • After Samantha's death, Nick is showing Hunt the article about her death. In the related story section, it says, Bus crash on HWY 180 kills 32.

Final Destination 5

  • 180 trust exercise video on the Bus 1282 monitor
  • Le Cáfe Miro 81 where Sam works is used throughout the movie.
  • 180 Corporate Consulting is the name of the business retreat the bus is Heading.
  • Flight 180 at the end of the movie.

Theories

  • Half of a circle has 180 degrees. If put into the context of the Final Destination series, it may be a metaphor for the cycle of life and death, with half of the circle representing death as is appropriate for the franchise. It is highly doubtful that this symbolism was intentional, however.
  • The Hexadecimal number for 180 is B4, as in "Before", which can be referring to the trademark premonitions found throughout the Final Destination franchise.
  • 180 could be a scrambled version of 108, a number frequently found in Buddhism that represents the one-hundred and eight earthly "defilements" that prevent attaining enlightenment and Nirvana. Some of the defilements easily apply to survivors in the series, such as "Disrespect" (Hunt Wynorski), "Jealousy" (Peter Friedkin), "Blasphemy" (Isaac Palmer), "Lecherousness" (Frankie Cheeks), "Self-Hatred" (Rosemarie Dupree), "Vanity" (Darla), "Sarcasm" (Eugene Dix) and "Hostility" (Kat Jennings) to name a few.

She lets him in, and they talk about how Sam dreams of being an apprentice in Paris which leads to the end of their relationship. appears with Sam, Peter and Nathan after hearing Isaac's death. They met Bludworth, who responds to them that they evaded Death and telling them to took someone's life. After Bludworth, Peter and Nathan leave, Molly suspects that Olivia might be in danger. She joins with Sam to save her. They arrive at the clinic, but are too late to save Olivia. The next morning, Molly meets with Sam on her couch figuring out the order of their coworkers die, and then figure out that Nathan is going to be next. However, the union boss Roy is murdered instead of Nathan despite not being on Death's list. Their boss Dennis arrive at the factory, figuring out what's going on until a wrench flies and kills him in front of the survivors.
Afterwards, Molly tries to convince Sam not to go to work, but Sam assures her that maybe something doesn't

want him to die if that something saved him on the bridge. The duo then spend the night at the local restaurant, and Peter interrupts their date. Driven to insanity by Candice's death, Peter attempts to kill Molly with a gun when he believes that she deserves to live more than Candice. Jim Block arrives at the scene, and he is shot by Peter, who decides to kill Molly and Sam to remove any witnesses. As Peter is about to kill Molly, Sam saves her when he stabs Peter with a meat spit.

Death

In the Flight 180 disaster, Molly is sucked outside and bisected on the plane's wing.
Two weeks later, Sam and Molly are boarding a plane to Paris. As they are taking their seats, a fight breaks out between two passengers, revealed to be Carter Horton and Alex Browning being thrown off the plane and the others following them. Sam and Molly ignore the situation as the plane takes off. On board, when Sam starts suffering the same omens from the bridge earlier. The plane that he and Molly are boarding was revealed to be Flight 180, which starts to break apart in mid-air. The fuselage near them rips apart, causing Molly to begin sucking her out of her seat. Sam grabs onto her, but the overwhelming force causes Molly to lose her grip. She get sucked out of the plane and slammed onto the wing, bisecting her.

Signs/Clues

Sam and Molly's Death
  • Molly tells Sam she wants the window seat.
  • In the premonition, Sam gets cut in two by a sheet of steel, while in reality, Molly is the one who gets cut in two.
  • An advertisement is shown for the Easternfield Lasik where Olivia had gone to, on the back of Molly's magazine
  • The words fasten your seat belt are flashing on the plane
  • A plane is seen near Sam's cubicle when she, Sam and Olivia discuss Candice's death.
  • A photo of Sam and Molly was seen in Molly's house. In the photo, Molly and Sam were hugging, she was standing in front of Sam, and she died before Sam.
  • The song Dust in the Wind is heard on the plane.
  • Sam sees a group of kids shouting and arguing as they leave the plane. A flight attendant states to another passenger that one of the kids had a "vision" that the plane was going to explode.
  • Sam cuts himself on Flight 180 just like he did on North Bay Bridge.
  • Her death is similar to when a girl on a plane (casualty of Final Destination) died from falling out of the plane's window seat in the premonition.
  • During the whole movie she is timid, and doleful(Due to death, and relationship complications). Right before she dies she is a little bit carefree, and bright spirited.
  • When Sam was in Molly's house, he looked at a picture of him and Molly, a vase was reflecting in the frame. The reflection looked like the head of an airplane.

Trivia

  • Molly's character has many titles due to her role in the movie:
    • First character that was meant to survive the opening disaster, but died in another one at the end;
    • First female character who was not meant to die until later in the movie;
    • Second character to be included on Death's list after being saved from a fatal event, the first one being Brian Gibbons from the second movie.
  • She is similar to Lori Milligan from the fourth movie in that both of them are the girlfriends of the main protagonist, who is also the visionary, and both of them die right before their boyfriends.
  • Molly's death is very confusing to many. Here is one theory people have: Molly was always suppose to survive the North Bay Bridge collapse, that was her fate for that accident. Now Peter tried to kill Molly to get her life and live the rest of her years, but he killed Agent Jim Block instead (getting his life). Peter now having a new life, being put on a new list separate from the Bridge's unfinished list, tries to kill Molly (the witness to murder). Before Peter kills Molly, Sam is able to stab Peter in the back, killing him. If Sam was never meant to be alive he would never have been able to save Molly. Unless Sam had received a new life, creating a new destiny. But, as far as Death's plan is concerned Peter was suppose to get a new life and kill Molly. This can be proven by The Final Destination's theory of "What if us being here, right now, was the plan all along?". Another theory. Molly was always suppose to have died on Flight 180 all along. Her true destiny rested on Flight 180.

Suddenly, the scaffolding next to the coffee shop falls over and blocks the road. A truck is unable to avoid the scaffolding and turns sharply, driving right into the coffee shop and running over Nick, Lori, and Janet. In skeletal vision, Lori is slammed against the grill of the truck and is thrown into a pole in the coffee shop, cracking her skull. She is internally decapitated when her head twists around 180 degrees until it snaps off completely.

He decides to sacrifice himself and jump off the building from stories above, creating an explosion that sets off the mall alarm. Everyone in the mall has to evacuate and they are all saved from the disaster. Lori is then seen with Janet, crying and mourning, where Janet convinces her he's a hero for saving everyone. They think they have beaten death just like Clear Rivers and Alex Browning. However, just as Lori says "the chain is broken" a broken metal chain falls from the sky, where Lori picks it up out of curiosity. A moment later, they are crushed by a falling platform, leaving Lori's hand behind, holding the metal chain.
  • The scene where Lori gets the aglet of her shoelace caught in an escalator is based on an unused scene from Final Destination 2 where Nora Carpenter got her shoelace caught in an escalator at a dentist's. This was originally the reason why her shoelace was untied during her death in the elevator, which she lent over to tie shortly before her hair got caught in a hook, leading to her death.

Some Article Final Destination Death

The Newspaper about an article of Kimberly and Officer Burke's accidents.
Survivors of deadly crash die in bizarre accident
REPORT - Faulty woodchipper to blame
Lakeview, NJ (AP) - In a strange end to a long running mystery that has kept conspiracy theorists and supernaturalists occupied for years, New Jersey police Officer Thomas Burke and Ms. Kimberly Corman - the last survivors of the infamous Route 180 Pileup - died instantly yesterday when they were pulled into a malfunctioning industrial woodchipper. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by local paramedics.
According to eyewitnesses, Ms. Corman stopped at Goldstein's Hardware on North Way for directions. She was surprised to find Mr. Burke also in the store, having stopped by to purchase a fire extinguisher. Neither had seen each other since they were witnesses at the death of Mr. Brian Gibbons, a young man associated with the Route 180 mystery.
At the same time, the brakes failed on an unmanned Camaro parked at the top of the hill, which rolled down and crashed into the front of the store. In their effort to escape, Mr. Burke and Ms. Corman ran out the back door, where a large industrial woodchipper was being serviced for a malfunctioning safety guard.
Subsequent details are unclear, but apparently Ms. Corman's coat got tangled in the woodchipper's spinning blades, and when Mr. Burke tried to save her, they both fell into the machine.
"I'll never recover from seeing what happened to those two, said a shaken Mr. Norman Goldstein, owner of the hardware store. "And I don't think I'll ever get the side of the building cleaned off."
Mr. Burke and Ms. Corman were the last survivors of the highway pileup on Route 180 three years ago. Several people were prevented from going on the highway by Ms. Corman, who allegedly experienced a premonition that the crash was about to occur. Soon after, however, each of the survivors was killed in a series of odd accidents. This fueled speculation by some that dark forces were at work to make sure they died.
While both Mr. Burke and Ms. Corman were exonerated of any involvement in the deaths, the stigma impacted them severely. Mr. Burke was reduced to a desk job in the sheriff's department while Ms. Corman dropped out of school to pursue "other interests." Their deaths might have signaled the tragic conclusion to the Routh 180 Pileup mystery, but several facts surrounding the deaths of Mr. Burke and Ms. Corman seem to ensure that it will be discussed for years to come.
The camaro that rolled into the front of the store used to be owned by Mr. Evan Lewis, one of the other survivors from the Route 180 pileup who had been killed outside his apartment. The woodchipper belonged to Mr. Roger Gibbons, who owns the farm where several of the other survivors of the Route 180 Pileup perished in a strange car accident.
He is also the father of Brian Gibbons, at whose odd death both Mr. Burke and Ms. Corman were present. Finally, the attending physician who signed the death certificate was Dr. Ellen Kalarjian, who delivered a baby whose mother was near, but not involved with, the Route 180 Pileup.
These coincidences were not lost on those close to the victims.
"This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen in twenty seven years on the force," said Sheriff Mortimer Perry, who was Burke's commanding officer. "Thomas was a good man who deserved better than what fate clearly had in store for him."
Ms. Corman's father Michael Corman released a statement which stated "My daughter lived a full life, and in death has hopefully escaped whatever it is that haunted her." Funeral services will be held at the Bludworth Funeral Home this Sunday.

Ian. When Wendy discovers that her sister was on the roller coaster as well she informs Kevin who manages to save her. Although the person who was sitting sitting next to her on the roller coaster Perry is killed. Kevin is almost killed as well by a grill explosion, but Wendy and Julie save him. Following these events they are confronted by Ian. Suddenly a cart of fireworks goes off in their direction, Kevin, Wendy and Julie duck, avoiding being killed but this results in Ian being crushed by a cherry picker

Death

Thrown against a window that then breaks, Kevin dies when he is being grounded against the tunnel wall by the out of control Train 081.
Five months after Devil's Flight, Kevin is reunited with Wendy and Julie on a subway train on his way home from a football game. Suddenly, Wendy has another premonition, of the subway derailing. In the premonition, Kevin is thrown against a cracked window and is unable to move as it slowly begins to grow weaker. The window finally breaks and Kevin is jettisoned outside, screaming as he is violently ground between the tunnel wall and train.

Signs/Clues

  • In the photos, it shows one when Wendy flashed the camera at Kevin's face, looking like a firework burned
    Kevin's Death
his face. However, Wendy intervened with this death.
  • Had Wendy not intervened, Kevin would have had his face burned by a gas grill exploding into it which was also similar to his photograph.
  • When he is against the train window, his facial expression is similar to the one in his photo.
  • In an alternate ending, Wendy observes the train schedule and notices the last stop says END in bold, red letters.
  • A subway musician starts singing "Turn Around, Look At Me," which is a recurring song in the movie.
  • One of the men boarding the train is bald and sports a white and red tattoo, with the tattoo on the left side of his head - which makes him eerily look like Frankie Cheeks when he died.
  • In Wendy's photo, Jason's face is blurred. On the train, the people speed past Wendy and all of their faces are blurry.
  • While looking in the mirror, Wendy notices the train's number, backwards, it reads 180.
  • Wendy sees a sign advertising the restaurant where Frankie Cheeks died.
Kevin's photo as to how he will die.

  • Wendy sees a sign advertising the store where Erin Ulmer died.
  • Wendy sees a sign advertising the store where Ashley and Ashlyn died.
  • Some people in the train were cheering for Bruins, the rival team of The Sultans.
  • Wendy sees a sign stating, There is no escaping DEATH and taxes.
  • The train conductor menacingly stated, "The next stop is the end of the line."
  • In The Fireworks Area, when the stick hits the wire to the flammable tanks, and the fire goes up in Kevin's face. It is similar when Clear River's face was burned by a fire explosion in Final Destination 2.
  • Throughout the movie Kevin asks Wendy if his death is painful or embarrassing. Unlucky for him he dies a pretty excruciating death (maybe)
  • In one scene Kevin checks with Wendy if it's safe for him to drive, and if she has any photos of him "pressed against the windscreen" - when he dies on the train he is pressed against the window.
  • In Train 081, the sign do not lean on the glass which hinted Kevin's death.

Trivia

  • It should be noted that Wendy, Kevin and Julie live in the novel.
  • In an alternate ending, the derailment happens and Kevin is filleted to death and all the survivors die, and then the credits roll.
  • There is strong controversy about Wendy, Kevin, and Julie's deaths. There's a slight possibility that the train stopped after several attempts by Kevin, but this is highly doubtful. Not only that, but since it just so happens Kevin's on the same train Wendy and Julie are on, it would be a great opportunity for Death to finish up the list. Also, no one has managed to successfully cheat Death in any of the Final Destination films, so the fact that Kevin didn't die would be baffling.
  • The strange fact about Kevin, Wendy, and Julie's deaths are that usually if at the end of the movie it is unknown whether the survivors lived or not, in the next movie, their fates are revealed. In the end of Final Destination, it is unknown whether Alex, Clear, and Carter survive but their fates are revealed in the next movie. The same goes for the fate of Kimberly and Officer Burke in Final Destination 2. Their fates are revealed in Final Destination 3 in a newspaper article in Choose Their Fate. Yet, Wendy, Kevin, and Julie's deaths aren't mentioned in The Final Destination, but producer Craig Perry had confirmed their death a million times via different sites.
  • Kevin was named after the scanning and recording worker of the film.
  • Zac Efron auditioned for the role of Kevin.

Thomas Burke

Thomas Burke

Listen, I know you've gone over all this with Detective Suby, but would you mind telling me what happened?
Burke, Questioning Kimberly on how she knew about the pile-up.
New York State Police Trooper Thomas Burke is a survivor in Final Destination 2. He is a highway patrol officer stationed in Westchester County, and is one of the survivors of the Route 23 pile-up.
Officer Burke was the eighth and last survivor to die.
 Thomas Burke
Thomas Burke

Biography

Thomas was born in New York. He currently resides in Westchester County, and is one of the stationed police officers in the Route 23 sub-station. Besides highway patrol, Thomas also performs secondary tasks such as police investigation and crime scene cleanup. During a stake-out with his partner, Thomas was reassigned to clean the remains of Billy Hitchcock, avoiding a fatal shoot-out which took his partner's life.

Final Destination 2

Thomas looking the news on Flight 180 in his computer.
Kimberly Corman suddenly stalls her SUV in the middle of the road after having a premonition of a pile-up in the highway. The drivers behind her, including Thomas, complained about her interruption until vehicles ahead crash one another and explode in the highway. As a result, Kimberly was later interrogated by Thomas at a police sub-station, where Kimberly explained that her vision was very similar to Alex Browning's vision, and that they are now all in Death's List. other survivors disregard this until survivor Evan Lewis dies the next day, alarming the survivors about the incoming danger. Thomas willingly agrees to Kimberly to save the group from Death with the help of Clear Rivers, the last survivor of Flight 180. Nonetheless, their attempts prove unsuccessful. Clear suggests to the couple to meet with mortician William Bludworth

, who helps the latter by claiming about how new life can defeat Death. Kimberly realizes that pregnant survivor Isabella Hudson can save them, however this proves false since Isabella was meant to live even in the premonition. After Clear and Eugene's deaths, Kimberly sacrifices herself for Thomas' safety by driving the van she is riding to a lake, however Thomas rescues her and sends her to a hospital for recovery. Thinking she and Thomas finally cheated Death, they went to a picnic with the Gibbons family, who tells them how their son Brian Gibbons was saved from Death by the survivors. To everyone's surprise, Brian is incinerated nearby due to a barbecue grill malfunction.

Death

A newspaper clipping shows that five years after Brian Gibbons' death, Burke went to a hardware

store to buy supplies, and met Kimberly inside. As they greeted each other, an unmanned vehicle began to drive down the road until it crashed into the store, nearly killing Kim and Burke. They rushed outside the back door at the last minute only to come into contact with a woodchipper, which failed to shut off. Kimberly got her coat caught inside the machine and was slowly sucked in. Burke tried to save Kimberly, but in the process, he got caught in the machine too. Both of them were hacked to bits by the woodchipper, their blood splattering all over the wall.

Signs/Clues

  • At the top of the page of the newspaper, there is a heading that says "COST OF COMMUTING | B2-3" which could possibly be referencing the Route 23 pile-up.
  • The car started the chain reaction used to be owned by Evan Lewis.
  • The woodchipper that sucked Thomas and Kimberly in is owned by Brian Gibbons' father.
  • Thomas and Kimberly's death certificates were signed by Doctor Ellen Kalarjian.
  • The funeral services for both were held at Mr. Bludworth's Funeral Home.
  • Burke's police callsign is Unit 13.
  • Ironically, the machine that kills him is a machine that deals with logs and wood.

Mistakes in his death

  • This article is the corrected version. For the mistakes it had see below:
    • Note that the article says Route 180 pile-up, when in the film it was actually Route 23.
    • The article says the event took place at Lakeview, NJ, but in the film it says they were residents of White Plains, NY.
    • There is inconsistency in the timeline of events as described by this article. It says they were both the last survivors of the pile-up that happened three years ago. Kevin specifically said that the Flight 180 premonition happened six years ago, and in Final Destination 2, the pile-up happened on the exact day that marked a year since the Flight 180 premonition. Unless the newspaper article is outdated in the film, as it was covering a homeless man, this creates an error in the timeline.
    • Brian Gibbons's father is named Peter Gibbons, instead of "Roger Gibbons". As Mrs. Gibbons had called him "Peter" in Final Destination 2. Unless Mr Gibbons had changed his first name after Brian's death, this is an error.

Trivia

  • The movie's producer Craig Perry, had confirmed Kimberly and Thomas' death on facebook and twitter. He also mentioned that the writer of the article was his assistant at that time, so there were some mistakes. Whatever the article is canon or not, Craig didn't mention clearly. But it can assured that it is considered canon, since he confirmed Kimberly and Thomas's death.
  • Kimberly & Thomas' Fate was revealed in the alternate ending of Final Destination 3.
  • In the original script of Final Destination 3, Kimberly and Officer Burke were going to be on Train 081 and die along with Wendy Christensen, Kevin Fischer and Julie Christensen.
  • He is the only survivor to be the officer and interrogate other survivors himself.
  • Kimberly and Thomas' deaths are based from a real life death by Brian Morse who was trimming birch trees in Loveland, Colorado, when his gloved hand got caught in a wood chipper. He was pulled through the machine before anyone could help him, his body was found inside completely mutilated.
